FAQS

THE ANSWERS TO YOUR QUESTIONS

1. Brand

Why was it made?

P.O.D is a concept that is designed to add new revenue streams to the global hair industry with an unmatched time and financial efficiency for the modern salon.

It was made to improve the working environment and environmental impact of the salon, whilst growing salon business without sacrificing the craft and creativity of the hairdresser.

Where is it made?

The product is designed in Australia, manufactured in Italy and distributed in Australia by Ozdare Private Limited.

How is it made?

P.O.D has 4 components namely Prep, Tone, Sealer and Shield. Each has a different function, unique formulation and is sustainable by design. The preparation of PREP & Tone is based on a unique technology which allows the active ingredients to blend together at the right temperature to obtain the final solid P.O.Ds.

How does it work?

P.O.D is a simple system designed to transform your hair colour and care experience at the basin in 3 simple steps:

(i) Prep — An arginine based solution that gently cleanses the hair, removing dirts and grimes. The arginine softens the hair and open/ lifts the cuticle layer

(ii) Tone — This the colouring step, comprises micro-colour molecules in an ecopod format. The P.O.Ds are infused with lipophilic oils, butters and amino acids to treat the hair while toning.

(iii) Sealer — This is the conditioning & last step, it helps close the cuticles and seal the colour onto the hair.

How long does it take?

The entire P.O.D process (prep, tone and seal) takes on average 8-10 min depending on length and texture of hair.

How much does it cost?

The P.O.D system is competitively priced for the professional salon, as well as added financial benefits with time saving costs of staff, product and service time at the basin. Average service cost for the client can range from $50-$100 AUD depending on what the salon owner wants to build into their service. P.O.D is designed for salon owners to effectively implement into their services menus to cater for their clientele within their existing pricing structures.

What shades are there?

Currently there are a total of 22 shades covering ultra lights & very lights, lights and medium, pastel & vibrants. We aim to expand and build our range in conjunction with our global community!

Is this for professional use only?

Yes — P.O.D is designed to create new revenue streams and innovative services for the professional hairdresser.

What is the shelf life of the system?

3 years unopened. 1 year after opening.

Will P.O.D stain skin hair or nails on myself or my clients?

Short answer? Absolutely not.

The molecular weight of the dye molecule is extremely small. The size of the dye molecule, combined with the lifting of the hair cuticle by the P.O.D.

Prep along with the microtechnology Tone allow the dye to cover the surface of the hair strand as well as get into extremely small spaces of the lifted hair cuticle layer, and deep into the hair fibre. This combined with the water treatment of the ECOHEADS Showerhead and the ionisation of the water ensures even binding of the colour molecule into the hair fibre. This also ensures that there is no skin or scalp staining during a P.O.D service, as the molecules do not bind to the skin.

However — If you touch the concentrated P.O.D prior to putting it into The Adaptor — you may get some slight staining on the fingers, however this will wash off quickly and easily.

Can I find tutorials or guides on how to use P.O.D effectively?

We have an Education Hub that will give you a comprehensive library of everything P.O.D!

2. Product

How could this system be used?

Colour refreshing and rejuvenation, toning in between highlight services, Blending highlights/ Balayage, toning for highlights and blonding looks.

How long does the P.O.D service take?

The average services takes under 10 mins to prep, tone and treat, saving up to 75% of the time spent on semi-permanent colour services, and lasts 8-12 washes.

Do I need to use an ECOHEADS Showerhead?

Yes, the P.O.D system relies on the unique properties of the ECOHEADS Showerhead to ionise the water and disperse The Prep and The Tone.

Can I just use P.O.D In my normal Showerhead? Why do I need the Adaptor?

P.O.D will not work if used inside the standard ECOHEADS Showerhead without The Adaptor. The unique design of the basket allows the water to spin the P.O.D. products and dissolve them efficiently.

What if my client's hair has a lot of oil/product build-up and is very dirty?

If the client's hair has a lot of build-up prior to a P.O.D service then we recommend shampooing the hair prior to the Prep to remove excessive build-up and dirt.

How is it removed?

The Tone can be removed by using any professional colour remover. Using higher pH products to open the cuticle and gently clean the hair will also help to remove unwanted pigment. NOTE- the same rules apply around putting powder lightener over fresh pigment- It can expand the colour molecule inside the hair causing it to become brighter and harder to remove. We recommend alternative colour removal options that each hairdresser is already comfortable with. For gentle, sheer removal- The Prep can be used to remove an overtone.

Will the colour deepen if left on for longer?

No, this is not a progressive colour and will not deepen if left on longer than the recommended processing time- which makes it a perfect partner for toning and refreshing at the basin.

What if my water pressure is low and my P.O.D is taking longer than expected to dissolve?

If you find that your water pressure is still quite low, even after installing an ECOHEADS Showerhead and improving the base flow- you can punch a small hole through The Tone (a metal tail comb works) to speed up the dissolution process. This is only necessary if the P.O.D is taking over 5 minutes to dissolve based on water pressure.

Does this replace my current colour line?

We are not looking to replace any other colour line, there are fantastic companies doing amazing things with colour. This is in addition to and a compliment to any current colour, semi, demi or refresh tones on previously toned hair. P.O.D is friends with all brands and is the perfect partner to blend and implement in alongside the things you already do in the salon.

Does P.O.D come with any special aftercare instructions or recommended hair care products?

Not yet … but we are working on it. At this stage we are recommending to use colour care shampoo & conditioner from a professional brand.

Is it damaging to my hair?

Absolutely not. P.O.D is designed to colour your hair and provide outstanding shine, strength and manageability. It is pH balanced and boosted with lipophilic oils and amino acids to treat the hair while toning. In addition, P.O.D is free from damaging chemicals such as Ammonia, MEA, DEA, PPD, PDT and requires no developer

Is P.O.D safe to use during pregnancy or for individuals with health conditions?

We have not specifically tested P.O.D products for use during pregnancy and other health conditions, however we anticipate no issues as it can be safely used on human hair, and does not contain any of the chemicals recommended for pregnant women to avoid.

How does the colour pigment get deposited onto the hair?

P.O.D working principle in 3 simple steps:

(i) PREP - an arginine based solution that lifts the cuticle layer to prime the hair fibre for colour.

(ii) TONE - water delivered tone on tone colour. This is the colouring step that uses micro-colour molecules in an ecopod format. This small dye molecules, combined with the ionic water delivery from the showerhead allows the colour to cover the surface of the hair strand as well as get into tiny pockets of the lifted hair cuticle layer.

(iii) Sealer - this is the conditioning & last step, it successfully closes the cuticle- sealing in the colour.

How often will I need a touch up?

P.O.D fades like any standard toner or direct dyes and touch up can be done whenever your hair is fading. Fading also depends on the client's lifestyle such as frequency of hair wash.

What happens to the colour once it gets washed down the drain?

P.O.D has been designed using safe and compliant ingredients and possesses no environmental concern. The safety data sheet for all our products is available that documents the risks associated with the usage, handling, storage and disposal for each SKU during their lifecycle.

Can I colour my hair if I have sensitive skin?

We have not specifically tested P.O.D products for sensitive skin. However, it is free from fragrance and enzymes. We recommend checking the ingredients before using for people with sensitive skin.

Can I swim or expose my hair to sunlight after P.O.D hair colour?

Like any hair colour product we recommend avoiding moisture in the first 24 hour post P.O.D treatment. P.O.D is designed to fade every time the hair is wet. P.O.D is formulated with powerful UV protection for colour.

Is it possible to mix different shades of P.O.D hair colour to create custom colours?

Absolutely, you can personalise your colours. All P.O.D tones are intermixable as long as one uses the knowledge of colour charts and the colour wheel theory.

Can I use P.O.D colour on previously chemically treated or damaged hair?

Yes, it is one of the safest colours on the market but one needs to take account of hair porosity to avoid extra tone absorption. We recommend using The Shield to balance porosity prior to working on compromised or chemically damaged hair.

Can I use P.O.D on chemically straightened or permed hair?

You can, it's one of the safest colouring products in the market.

Is there a minimum age requirement for using P.O.D?

4. Usage

How long will it last?

Colour usually lasts from 8-12 hair washes, this partly depends on the hair quality and external factors such as lifestyle, products used for hair washing, water quality, swimming and outdoor activities and water quality at home. We suggest if someone is living in a hard water area- to be regularly using a chelating shampoo to keep their hair in best condition or a colour protect shampoo to assist in locking in the colour.

How does P.O.D ensure that its colour results are fade-resistant and long-lasting?

To ensure long-lasting colours we advise:

  • Avoiding hair wash within 24 hours of the P.O.D treatment
  • Use a chelating shampoo to prevent mineral buildup on hair.

P.O.D is a true tone on tone colour and designed to fade completely out of the hair. It gradually gets more and more translucent over each wash until it is entirely out of the hair shaft. The first wash will release the most colour, then it will gradually and evenly wash out over the 8-12 wash cycle. There is no permanent residue or buildup that will be left in the hair when it fades out.

How does P.O.D ensure consistent and even colour application?

P.O.D is a new colour technology that is based on micro-colour molecules that are dissolved by the water and dynamic pressure of the ECOHEADS Showerhead. The small dye molecules in Tones, in conjunction with the ionisation of the water by the Showerhead allows colour to bond deep and evenly onto the hair fibre- resulting in excellent tone on tone results.

Does P.O.D offer any additional benefits for hair, such as conditioning or added shine?

P.O.D is designed to nourish the hair while colouring. The TONE or colour ecoP.O.Ds contains lipophilic oils and amino acids to treat the hair while toning. The Sealer is rich in phytocomplex - will nourish and protect the hair, providing high shine and a light, bouncy finish.

A versatile, no damage toning system that can be effortlessly integrated into your existing colour service structures or as a stand alone tone on tone colour treatment, guaranteed to improve hair quality no matter your hair type, condition or texture.

Does P.O.D have any specific requirements or recommendations for application tools?

The P.O.D system relies on the unique properties of the ECOHEADS Showerhead and the Adopter. The Adaptor must be fixed with the standard ECOHEADS Showerhead. The unique design of the Adaptor basket allows the water to spin the P.O.D. products and dissolve them efficiently.

For application, remember that P.O.D is a tone on tone colour which means your results will be-

Existing level +The Tone = The Results.

Is there a special technique or process for applying P.O.D to achieve optimal results?

The Showerhead becomes your application tool- you are rinsing/infusing product into the hair so even and correct application is easy- just envision the Showerhead as your brush! Head to the Education Hub to see it in action and pick up the best application technique.

What makes P.O.D different from current products on the market?

P.O.D is free from-

Ammonia, MEA, DEA, PPD, PDT and requires no developer.

P.O.D process is fast and efficient with exceptional tone on tone results- Application time is significantly reduced to 8-10 minutes, when compared against other acidic/semi permanent toning service timings.

Additional benefits: It is pH balanced and formulated with essential amino acids that strengthens, protects, and equalises porosity to repair hair.

Can I use P.O.D on different hair types?

Yes, its suitable on all hair types (best colour results over a level 8 with current shades) and is formulated to work on every hair texture due to it’s unique way of treating and delivering product onto the hair.

Are there any limitations or precautions when using P.O.D?

P.O.D is a global toning delivery, so where there are specific application of toners or different formulas that one would apply in a toning service- there are tips and tricks for combining for instance- a semi-permanent root stretch, and then a P.O.D service to follow- this is covered and demonstrated in our Education hub.

Is P.O.D suitable for people with grey or white hair?

P.O.D is not designed to cover grey hair, it will however give sheer blending and can achieve soft results when a double prep is used- this will open the cuticle even more. The treatment aspect of P.O.D will give amazing conditioning and softening results to grey hair.

Can P.O.D be used to correct or adjust previously applied hair colour mistakes?

Yes absolutely. P.O.D is great for colour correction, fill and neutralising.

How does P.O.D minimise the risk of colour bleeding or staining on clothing or towels?

Yes, P.O.D works with a micro dye system that does not hold to the skin or any clothing. In addition, the dyes are water soluble hence can be washed away with one wash from skin, further minimising the risk of colour bleeding.

Does P.O.D offer any options for colour refresher products to maintain vibrancy between applications?

Not at this stage (simply come and see your fav hairdresser in between).

Does P.O.D have a scent or fragrance, and is it derived from natural sources?

No P.O.D is intentionally designed with no fragrance, ensuring the formulations are mild and gentle. The Sealer has a fragrance but it is at a minimal percentage.

Can P.O.D be layered or stacked to create multidimensional colour effects?

P.O.D can layer one colour to remove one or to enhance existing colour. When using traditional colours for root application, P.O.D can be layered on top to give the middle and hair ends a multi-colour effect.

Is there a limit to the number of times I can reapply P.O.D without damaging my hair?

P.O.D can be used for colour refreshing and rejuvenation for any number of times, it is one of the safest colours in the market.

Is there a recommended waiting period after using P.O.D before I can wash or style my hair?

Like any hair colour product we recommend avoiding moisture in the first 24 hour post P.O.D treatment. P.O.D Designed to fade every time the hair is wet.

Can P.O.D be used in conjunction with heat styling tools, such as flat irons or curling irons?

Absolutely, yes. P.O.D is designed with micro dyes which ensures the colours settle deep and even & hence less prone to fading during ironing or curling unlike regular semis and colours that sit on the outside of the cuticle and are much more sensitive to heat application.

Can P.O.D be used to colour hair extensions or synthetic hairpieces?

We recommend using our product Shield to help colour uptake for hair extensions but synthetic hair is chemically treated which restricts P.O.D application.

Is there a specific recommended method for achieving seamless colour transitions when using multiple shades of P.O.D?

P.O.D is designed to make hair colour look seamless and it's very easy to apply.

How does P.O.D ensure that its colour formulation is consistent from batch to batch?

We have strong product quality and safety processes to minimise batch variations in manufacturing. Every batch produced is tested for performance and safety with respect to a previously approved product. Evaluation is done following the best practices existing in the hair care industry.

Is there a specific recommended process for strand testing with P.O.D before full application?

For strand testing, one hair strand or a hair swatch matching the same as the client can be used for testing.

Can P.O.D be used to colour hairpieces or wigs made from synthetic fibres?

No, synthetic hair has barriers and doesn’t allow colour uptake. But it is very effective on extensions and human hair wigs and pieces.
